Segundo encuentro: Hacia la Recuperación Justa

Queremos invitarte a ser parte del Segundo Encuentro Anual por la Recuperación Justa. Se celebrará en un formato a distancia. Aunque el COVID-19 nos impide encontrarnos físicamente e invitar a personas que quisiéramos tener en Puerto Rico para este junte, el contexto nos invita a crear espacios desde donde pensar la respuesta a desastres y el derecho a la vivienda, para organizar el poder y tomar pasos hacia la recuperación justa.

Les pedimos que separen las fechas de AGOSTO 12 Y 13 para unirse a este encuentro que reunirá a personas de comunidades, organizaciones de base, activistas y defensores de la vivienda, la justicia racial y la recuperación digna, así como a fundaciones y organizaciones fuera de Puerto Rico.

El año pasado reunimos sobre 80 organizaciones. Ese encuentro nos ayudó a trabajar consensos sobre políticas relacionadas a la recuperación justa, los desplazamientos, la necesidad de enmendar los planes de acción para permitir mitigaciones y reiterar nuestro compromiso por la recuperación justa. Desde entonces, hemos sufrido terremotos, pandemia y más austeridad. La temporada de huracanes que inicia nos encuentra más frágiles en vivienda e infraestructura, lo que representa una oportunidad para la especulación y la inversión buitre. Necesitamos encontrarnos, discutir, actuar juntas.

We want to invite you to participate of the Second Annual Just Recovery Summit. This event will be held in an online format. While it will prevent us from sharing physical proximity and inviting many of you to come to Puerto Rico, this context calls us to create and hold spaces for critical thinking about disaster response and the right to housing, to organize power and take affirmative steps towards a just recovery.

We are asking you to save the dates of August 12 and 13 to be part of a convening that will bring together stakeholders from community based organizations, advocates for housing, racial justice and recovery, as well as foundations and organizations from the US and abroad.

Last year we were able to bring together nearly 80 organizations. That summit led the way to achieve consensus around policies towards just recovery including protection for families at risk of displacements, the need to amend the action plan to minimize relocations and permit mitigation as well as a commitment with real and effective participation. Since then, we have been impacted by earthquakes, a pandemic and more austerity. The hurricane season that just started finds us with less protections in regards to housing and fragile infrastructure, a safe haven for speculation and lack of corporate accountability. We need to convene, we need to discuss, we need to act together, now.
